Ms. Burgess is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Her litigation practice focuses primarily on resolution of employment disputes, including discrimination and retaliation in the workplace, as well as wage and hour matters. Ms. Burgess has appeared before the Department of Labor for a Sarbanes-Oxley claim and has assisted employers with investigations conducted by the Department of Labor for overtime compensation. She has represented both employees and employers through the administrative and trial proceedings with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, (EEOC). Ms. Burgess not only mediated regularly with the EEOC and private mediators to resolve these disputes, but has also guided employers through all aspects of the EEOC’s investigation, including on-site investigations and document review. The remainder of Ms. Burgess’ practice focuses on insurance coverage disputes, professional liability and malpractice, and defense of charitable organizations and groups.
Ms. Burgess joined Miller Scamardi & Carrabba as a law clerk in 2000 following her first year of law school. After serving as a Senior Associate, she became a Partner in 2008. Prior to entering the practice of law, she worked as a pediatric health and nutrition research assistant for both Arkansas Children's Hospital and the Center for Applied Research and Evaluation - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Ms. Burgess also served as an Investigator for the Texas Department of Family and Regulatory Services, CPS Division.
